Paintwork
To gain a full picture of the Town Hall’s colourful history, a paint analyst, Catherine Hassall of London, surveyed and identified the paint colours used in the past.
The painstaking analysis revealed layer upon layer of different types and colours of paints applied over the past 170 years, including a variety of distempers and oil and lead-based paints.
A new colour scheme was developed, but the decorative paintwork of the organ remained the same.
